The SUNY Geneseo equestrian team becomes the 20th intercollegiate sport at Geneseo in 2004. Head coach Kim Sanford is a 1977 graduate of SUNY Delhi and begins her fifth season in 2008-09.

In 2008-09, the women's equestrian team completed their fifth season of varsity competition by finishing fifth of 14 teams in the overall standings in zone two, region two of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. The Knights, who were just two points out of third place in the team standings, highlighted their season by sending one rider to the Zone 2 championships, where senior Judy Lim participated in the Walk/Trot class. At the Zone 2 regional championships at St. Lawrence, where Geneseo sent six riders, Lim won the Walk/Trot class, senior Megan Talbot garnered a fifth place ribbon in Advanced Walk, Trot, Canter and senior Liz Barone captured a seventh place award on the flat in the Intermediate class. Senior Annalise Ammer, junior Amyrose Lomele and senior Cassie Brown participated in the regional championships for the Knights. Geneseo’s top team finishes for the season were a pair of third places coming in the opening show at Lehman Farms on October 25 and at St. Lawrence on November 22.
