Mission
Vision & Goals

Consistently ranked as one of the top public liberal arts colleges in the northeast by US News & World Report, SUNY Geneseo's intercollegiate athletics program reflects the commitment to excellence by offering a wide range of programs for both the serious and recreational athlete.

The College's intercollegiate athletics program is comprised of 20 teams, fielding teams in 12 women's sports and eight men's. Through the 2008-09 academic year, Geneseo has posted an all-time, all-sports record of 5048 wins, 3895 losses and 170 ties for a 56.3 winning percentage.

In 2008-09, Geneseo teams won 58.2% of their contests with 160 wins against 114 losses and six ties, finishing second in the Commissioner's Cup standings for overall sports performance in the SUNYAC conference. The Knights won five SUNYAC championships: women's tennis, men's swimming & diving (their 10th straight), women's swimming and diving, women's cross country (their ninth straight) and men's outdoor track and field.

Nineteen of our 20 programs earned postseason competition with the men's and women's cross country teams and women's tennis teams participating in the national championships.

Eleven student-athletes earned 25 All-American awards and one student-athlete, Scott Morton for men's basketball, was named SUNYAC Player of the Year. In addition, Morton and senior Laura Iafrati were chosen as recipients of the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.

Geneseo student-athletes perform in the classroom as well as the playing surface. In 2008-09, 225 of our student-athletes were named to the SUNYAC All-Academic Team for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.3 or higher during their season of competition and 128 of our athletes were recognized on the Commissioner's List for maintaining a 3.3 grade point average or higher for three consecutive semesters. Seven student-athletes were selected as the SUNYAC Scholar-Athlete, including Iafrati for women's cross country, indoor and outdoor track, senior Lindsey Feuz for women's soccer, senior Jeremy Reeves for men's soccer, Morton for men's basketball, senior Jessie Cocco for women's swimming, senior Jessica Gunner for women's lacrosse and junior Erik Baranowski for men's lacrosse.

Finally, four of Geneseo's coaches earned SUNYAC Coach of the Year awards. Head coach Mike Woods captured the award for women's cross country, Mike Mooney for men's soccer, Paul Dotterweich for men's and women's swimming and diving and Dave Prevosti for men's outdoor track and field.

For the recreational athlete, the college provides 23 intramural leagues in nine different sports and 11 single day tournaments, along with recreational hours in the gymnasiums, swimming pool, ice arena, and jogging track. The college also has an all-weather outdoor track, two soccer/lacrosse fields, a softball diamond, field hockey field and many intramural fields.
